There’s a great quote by Olympic gold medalist speed skater Bonnie Blair that says, “winning doesn’t always mean being first. Winning means you’re doing better than you’ve done before.”
This is the mindset that we want to attain or possess when approaching life in general. When we start to realize the importance of striving to do better than we did the day, the month or the year before then we are winning. This applies to our personal growth, our fitness and any area where we seek improvement. Winning is becoming a better version of you. This is the mindset that I carry with me everyday.
When I competed in my fifties, I adopted this mindset because after always coming in first during my early years of competing, I had to find a way to motivate myself and allow myself the space to compete at a high level and know that I was doing everything possible to be the best that I could be, Each competition pushed me to limits that I didn’t know I could reach through training and mental toughness that was needed to compete. Because I was able to do so meant I was winning regardless of the outcome.
Ask yourself this question? What are you winning at?
